Hip & Pelvis Conditions
Hip and pelvis conditions include joint, tendon, labral, and referred pain presentations affecting the groin, lateral hip, buttock, and pelvic region. Evaluation clarifies what is driving symptoms so care can combine graded loading, mobility work, and the manual or symptom-relief tools that best fit your situation.
Book an evaluationHip and pelvis pain can stem from the joint itself, surrounding muscles and tendons, or referred sources like the lumbar spine. A diagnosis of FAI or labral tearing on imaging doesn't always explain symptoms, and many people with these findings are completely pain-free.
Symptoms in this region often relate to load tolerance: how the hip handles walking, stairs, sitting, or athletic demands. Pain may be felt in the groin, outer hip, buttock, or even down the thigh. Clarifying what's driving your symptoms helps determine whether conservative management is appropriate.
Diagnostic overlap is common. Many presentations involve contributions from multiple structures, and respond better to functional assessment than to imaging-based conclusions alone.

Clinical approach
Hip and pelvis conditions are evaluated by examining movement quality, load tolerance, and symptom behavior. We assess how the hip moves in different directions, how it responds to loading, and whether symptoms are joint-driven, tendon-driven, or referred from elsewhere.
Many hip problems improve with progressive loading and targeted mobility work, even when imaging shows structural changes. Surgery is sometimes necessary, but it's often not the first or only option.
The goal is to restore comfortable movement and activity tolerance, whether that means walking without pain, returning to sport, or getting through daily tasks more easily.
You may fall into this category if...
- You have groin, outer hip, or buttock pain that hasn't resolved with rest
- You've been told you have FAI, a labral tear, or hip arthritis
- Your hip is stiff or painful with certain movements, like squatting, sitting, or stairs
- You're unsure whether your pain is coming from your hip or your low back
- You want to understand your options before considering surgery or injections
