Post-Operative Physical Therapy in Chicago

Pre-op and post-op rehabilitation that respects your surgeon's protocol and gets you back to full function safely.

    What Is Post-Operative Physical Therapy?

Post-operative physical therapy is the structured rehabilitation that follows surgery. It restores range of motion, rebuilds strength, and progresses the body safely back to the demands of daily life, work, and sport.

Pre-operative care (prehab) prepares your body before surgery. Patients who enter surgery stronger and better conditioned consistently recover more quickly with less complication.

At Form and Function, we follow your surgeon's instructions as the foundation of care and progress you efficiently within those boundaries. Recovery should be paced, but it should also move forward.

    • ACL, meniscus, and other knee surgeries
    • Rotator cuff, labral, and shoulder procedures
    • Total hip and total knee replacement

    How We Approach Post-Operative Care

    • Progressive strengthening as healing milestones are met
    • Manual therapy and modalities to support early recovery
    • Sport, work, and life-specific return-to-function training

What a Typical Plan Looks Like

    1. 1Pre-op assessment and prehab (when applicable)
    2. 2Early post-op care focused on mobility and pain control
    3. 3Progressive loading guided by surgeon protocol
    4. 4Strength, balance, and functional capacity rebuilding
    5. 5Sport- or task-specific return and discharge planning

Who Post-Op PT Is (and Is Not) a Good Fit For

    A good fit if you:

    • Have surgery scheduled or recently completed
    • Want a clinician who collaborates with your surgical team
    • Are committed to progressing safely back to full activity

May not be appropriate if you:
